Phuket Shipwreck Death Toll Rises to 41
At least 41 people died after a boat carrying Chinese tourists capsized near the Thai island of Phuket, Chinese state media People's Daily reported Saturday.
A dive boat called Phoenix with 105 people onboard overturned on Thursday afternoon due to weather conditions, according to the Chinese embassy in Bangkok.
Thai authorities said on Saturday that 41 people had been confirmed dead, while another 15 were still missing. The Thai navy, marine police, and fishing vessels are continuing search-and-rescue operations.
A yacht carrying 41 people also sank due to bad weather in the same area yesterday, but all aboard were rescued.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
