In Xiji County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, wild boars have become a significant threat to agricultural and rural livelihoods, damaging crops and even endangering locals. A coordinated hunting operation to hunt adult wild boars in the area began on Oct. 18, enlisting local protection teams and specially trained dogs to manage the burgeoning population — now numbering over two million nationwide — and safeguard autumn harvests. The efforts highlight the challenges and evolving strategies needed to balance ecological protection with rural sustainability.
