Body as Theater: A Living Art Experiment Comes to Shanghai
From Feb. 12 to March 5, 2025, Shanghai’s Museum of Art Pudong and Tao Dance Theater present “The World of Movements — When Body Language Comes Alive.” The interactive performance invites audiences to move, observe, or simply exist in the gallery, turning every participant into a co-creator.
Founded in 2008, Tao Dance Theater has carved out a distinctive presence in the global contemporary dance scene. This time, it introduces a group of 27 non-professional dancers selected solely for their unique take on dance. Chosen from hundreds in Shanghai, they bring raw, unfiltered expression to the stage. Now they’re helping others to make the same leap.
“When the body becomes a fluid theater, art blossoms with every breath,” Tao Ye, founder of Tao Dance Theater, tells Sixth Tone.
“I hope everyone can take part, for each person is a practitioner of art. The body is a theater, and wherever our body is, so are our perception and response.”
