90s Kids: The Jazz Pianist
“There’s a type of person who has a gift, but still needs a lot of effort to achieve the things they want. I’m one of them.” This is how A Bu defines himself. He is a world-class pianist who just received first place at the Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition.
At 16 years old, A Bu’s life experience is richer than many adults. He started learning piano at 4, began his jazz career at 9, and now studies classical music in The Juilliard School in New York City. In June 2015, A Bu toured Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Suzhou, and Shanghai with his jazz trio.
He loves jazz for its free and unique style. He feels that through music, like language, he can truly express himself. “There aren’t any masters of music — only students. I’m just someone who keeps growing through music.”
